Legend
You land the killing blow on the demon and quickly ponder your next move, that's when you hear a voice whisper to you from nearby.
"Show yourself!"
"Shhhh! You'll alert more demons to our location!" a man says coming out of hiding. He looks like a royal guard, but you suspect he may be more. He looks you up and down, before continuing.
"Its you! I thank HIS will and the Church's good sense to send you to help! I've heard about all the deeds you've been doing for us. We certainly could use your help now! I'm Daniel."
"You're the agent that Father Alberto spoke of, why haven't you killed Farad? Why are you hiding when our enemies threaten our existence?!"
"Hey! I tried! I really did! If it was just Farad, and maybe some of those cultists I could, but when the demons started pouring into this place, I knew I was outmatched. I admit, I lost courage, I can only hope the One True God can forgive me."
"Hmm, well I suppose he will, but that still doesn't help us right now. Do you at least know where Farad is? He hasn't killed the Baron yet has he?"
"No, I don't think so, he took his father into the dungeons, I think he plans to go through with some foul sacrificial ceremony. Hopefully you can still catch him, but be careful! He's got more demons protecting him, some nasty skeletal ones that can disintegrate you with a beam from their claws!"
"Hey! Aren't you going to help me?"
"I I can't I'm sorry I'm too afraid but I know of someone else who might, who's also hiding in the palace somewhere."
"Who?"
"Ludmilla Varsakken, the Baron's daughter."
"A girl?"
"She is more than a mere girl. I have uh observed her and she's a lot more than she appears. I discovered she was an accomplished fighter in her own right, and I know for a fact that she has no love for her brother. She may be able to help you, if you can find her. I think she's hiding on the ground floor somewhere nearby."
You decide that you might need help if Farad has as many demons as the agent said. It never hurts to have help, but you'll have to be quick about it.
Fortunately the One True God has seen fit for you to find Ludmilla pretty quickly because you soon hear a female voice whisper over to you from a nearby room as you search the empty corridors.
"Are you Ludmilla?"
"Yes, and you don't look like a demon or one of my father's inept guards in fact you look like you're a follower of the One True God. That overly optimistic new religion that's been gaining a bit of a foothold in the City. Didn't think your type were big fighters given that one of your AGENTS was one of the first to flee when my brother summoned his demons. Yes don't look so surprised that I know that, very little goes on here that I don't know about."
You growl at Ludmilla's taunt. Obviously she's a heathen just like the rest of her family.
"I'll ignore your remark, because I heard you could help me with your brother."
"Hmm, I could, but I wonder if you seem capable to the task. Your kind haven't impressed me much as far as fighting is concerned. Loving on the other hand, you seem to do a better job at "
Ludmilla flirtatiously touches your chest and you pull away. You get the impression that's how she found out about that weak willed fool Daniel. He'll have a lot to answer to when this is all over!
"Away woman and your temptress charms! This is not the time nor the place even if I was interested!"
"Hmm, maybe you have more in common with my brother, he doesn't like women either."
This remark causes you to give a flat out "NO!"
"Just really no fun all the way around huh?"
"Look! I just want to destroy the evil that has taken over this city and that means killing your brother and sending his damnable soul back to the hells where it can be feasted on and tormented by his so called demon friends for all eternity! Now are you going to help me or not?"
"Well, I never could resist a forceful man who knows what he wants My brother has demons guarding the stairways to the dungeons, but I know a secret passage that will by pass those. You lead the way, you big strong crusader, I'll be right behind you making sure nobody sneaks up on us."
You're a little leery of Ludmilla being behind you. Something about that woman makes her someone you'd not want holding a weapon with your back to her! Still, you don't have much of a choice.
You walk along the dark passage, without incident, and you think you're going to get to the dungeon without a fight, but that doesn't happen when two glowing eyes meet you in the dark!
"Hello Ludmilla, your brother was right place me here to prevent a possible rescue attempt!" a deep voice says followed by a skeletal demonic face appearing about an inch before your own! You're immediately engaged in close combat!
SKELETAL DEMON
SKILL: 10
STAMINA: 6
You're at several disadvantages here. First, it's dark and unless you have a lantern (Which Ludmilla would probably be carrying for you in this case) you'll have to subtract 2 from your dice roll for this fight. Second, unless you have a blunt weapon of some sort all damage you do will only cause 1 STAMINA point of damage. Finally, if the demon manages to land a hit on you twice in a row then he's managed to push you away long enough for him to unleash his disintegration ray, which will kill you instantly. (Unless you have immunity to that sort of thing)
If you win despite all that, you eventually reach the dungeon where you will finally face Farad no doubt.
