From what you've heard of the Syndicate, it deals in murder, strong arming, blackmail, and possibly even slave trading. For all you know it could be allied with the Dark One cult and if it isn't, it certainly is performing the Dark One's work. You figure at least the Guild just steals.
You approach the man in red who shifts a bit, but doesn't make a great effort to be hostile.
"Hey you're a member of the Church of the One True God aren't you? I'm really surprised to see one of you here." So, what brings you to this den of sin? Come to convert the heathens?"
"Not today, I'm here because I need a guide in the sewers."
"Really now? What might be interesting you down there?" he asks warily.
"An evil cult. The Dark One's followers have a large headquarters there."
"Let me guess they're your ideological enemies, right?"
"Not just our enemies, they're the enemies of all that is good and righteous! They are a plague that must be destroyed."
"Hmm, they sound pretty bad. How do you know they have a headquarters down there? Because I can honestly say I know my way around and I've never come across anything like that or even any clues of something like that."
"I have it on a higher authority that that is where they are located."
"So, basically your superiors told you something and you're following like a mindless sheepÂ…I heard you guys were a bit gullible."
That statement irritates you greatly, but you manage to keep a cool head. You can hardly expect this sinner to act properly anyway.
"I care little for your heathen opinions. I know the Dark One is here. The city itself reeks of his presence. Now are you going to help me, or do I have to find another cowardly Godless thief to do the job?"
He looks at you for a moment and then speaks.
"Alright, I'll help you out. If there is a secret cult down there, it would behoove me to find out for the good of the Guild since we don't need a bunch of violent religious nuts taking over the sewers, that's OUR territory. If I'm taking you with me though I'm not doing it for free. 30 gold. And we're just finding the place, if you're going to play crusader that's on you, don't expect me to help."
If you don't have 30 gold pieces you can give him what you do have and one thing of value such as a magical item or a valuable jewel.
