Gryphons in Greenden

Two neighboring kingdoms, Ferriers and Greenden, have been in conflict with each other since the beginning of time. They have just concluded a rather nasty, drawn-out war, and are currently in an armed truce, with both sides bristling for an excuse to rage across the other's border.

The Princess of Ferriers, a strong-willed and impetuous young woman, was out riding with her Princess's Guard in the forest of Blythe, and has since gone missing, along with her entire Guard.

King Biers is furious and wants to order an immediate invasion of Greenden, spitting in his beard and cursing the name of his archnemesis and rival, King Wyclef of Greenden. General Sir William of Gryphon, however, convinces his monarch to send some men over the border to investigate before launching the invasion.

Sir Mychael and Sir Erric of the Gryphon Knights are charged with the task.

Sir Mychael (the character you will begin with) is an outstanding knight with superior abilities, intelligent, loyal, trustworthy, honest, and courageous. He is not a noble, but he has his eye on a certain countess and he thinks his prospects are good.

Sir Erric of Midland is Mychael's best friend and a known rogue. A drinker and a womanizer, Erric is the loathed second son of a powerful noble in Ferriers, and his father put him in the Gryphon Knights hoping to inspire his son into some kind of morality. No dice. Erric has too much fun with his hard-living lifestyle for that. Mychael is always prying him out of dastardly situations, but Erric is the better swordsman of the two, a proven champion of the joust and the finest fighter Ferriers has ever seen. Too bad he's in his cups most of the time before noon. But Erric will go to the ends of the earth for a true friend, and when Mychael accepts the mission to find the Princess, Erric decides he'll go along too...
