Secrets of the Night
"Brenna, what's happened? You were screaming."
Brenna rolled over and looked up at one of the most handsome men she had ever seen. He also happened to be her boyfriend of the past year. The contours on his face caught the early morning sun, and cast slight shadows that made him seem all the more ethereal. His large man's hand touched her cheek, and she sighed with relief.
"I had a bad dream that's all," Brenna said turning her face to place a kiss on his palm. She saw a shadow move on the far side of the room, but when she looked directly at it, it was gone as if it had never been there. She settled back against a stack of pillows and looked around her childhood room. "It's odd to be back here."
"The place needs a lot of work," Jason said flopping back down on the bed to gaze up at her. "Are you sure this is what you want to spend the summer doing? It's not too late to hire a crew and sneak off to Paris."
Brenna crossed her eyes at him to make him laugh. "We've BEEN to Paris, the Eiffel Tower makes my eyes cross."
"Oh yeah? What about this tower?" Jason asked crudely placing her hand on the tent below his waist.
There was a clatter somewhere deeper in the house, and Brenna jumped.
"Aww, poor baby, that dream really DID scare you didn't it?" Jason's voice was sensitive and he kissed her forehead delicately.
"Hello?" a voice called in the distance.
