Hall of Infinite Doors

John jumped back instinctively, dodging a large blue hand that shot out of the cage. His heart beat vigorously. Before him stood a nine foot tall monkey. The monkey was breathing heavily like it was angry or excited, and it slowly lowered itself onto all fours, bringing it down to his height.

He felt a great comfort in the cage standing between them. The cage looked thick and strong enough to prevent the escape of the monkey. Nervousness did reside in his mind, however, and he stepped back just in case. The monkey grabbed two bars, and with a simple outward motion, started to bend them. John cursed the rust of the bars, and jumped into the boat. He cast himself away from the island, assuming the monkey could not swim. He paddled away from the island, looking back at the monster he had just awakened. The monkey worked at the bars of the cage until a hole of a significant size was made.

The monkey tried to force itself though the hole it had made, but found it to be too small for its large body. The monkey thrashed wildly at the side of the cage until it collapsed. The monkey pulled itself out of the pile of metal and without pausing for a second, jumped into the water after John.

The huge wave that followed pushed John's boat a very large distance. He started paddling away from the monkey rapidly, not paying any mind to his sore limbs. The monkey was behind him, trying to swim with moderate success. Every time the monkey shot himself forward, another wave would push John's boat away from him.

John realized the danger and rowed as hard as he could. Both his paddles made very quick circles into and then out of the water, pushing his boat away from the monster that wanted so desperately to catch him. His heart beat like a machine gun, his hands gripped the paddles like a vice, and his breath worked like a vacuum.

It was a while before John realized he was gaining space between himself and the monkey. The monkey didn't seem to be a very good swimmer, and actually aided in his own escape. He grinned a bitter grin. There was no way he'd be able to hide the fact from the farmer's family that he had visit their basement now. He continued to row just as vigorously, hoping if he got enough distance between himself and the monkey, the monkey would give up.
