Hall of Infinite Doors

Seeing the blue monkey would have seemed a lot more abnormal to John if it didn't look so natural. It's color was a very blue tint, but it seemed almost as if it was meant to be that color. Some parts of the monkey were darker or lighter than others, indicating the wear on the fur or lack thereof.

The thing that stood out the most about the monkey was its great size. When standing up, John guessed it to be at least 8 feet tall. Its hands looked like tennis rackets and its take like a python. It looked powerful, he thought. At the same time, however, it looked very peaceful.

John now knew what was in the basement. He knew about the blue monkey. How could he ever just walk away from the house and not ask the farmer or his family about it? Why didn't they submit it? What do they feed it, and how often? How did they get it? There were too many questions to be left unanswered. He decided he had to ask the farmer about it. He would pay his way out of any trouble he had caused.

He got back in the boat, and took the paddles into his hand, not feeling tired in the least. It was funny he thought he could get to sleep by investigating the matter. He now found less sleep than he had before. He knew it was partially because of the adrenaline the body pumped into him due to his lack of sleep had really kicked in. He also knew he'd never get to sleep if he didn't have a few questions about the blue monkey answered first.

He pushed off the island and started to slowly paddle away. His neck hairs stood up as he felt the blue monkey's eyes on his retreating soul. He closed his eyes tightly, which seemed to help, opened them and looked back, but found that the monkey was still asleep. He stopped paddling. How could it be real? He felt ridiculous. There is no such thing as a gigantic, blue monkey, and he knew it. And in a farmer's basement? Unlikely. He paddled back to the island, determined. He would prove somehow it wasn't real, and then he could rest without ever having to ask the farmer about it. Without thinking, John reached his hand sideways into the cage and put his hand into the fur. It felt warm and soft, but nothing happened. He removed his hand from the cage and suddenly, the blue leaped up towards him.
