Lost in a Good Book- A Child's Tale

Rebecca grabbed a book off the shelf. It had the absolute cutest kitten in the world on it just looking up at her with an expression that said "love me." She knew in an instant that she would love the kitten. So, taking the book, she found a seat in the corner, and settled down.

"It was kitten's first full moonÂ…" the book began gently, but Rebecca felt something happening inside her belly. Something that reminded her of the time she got sick all over Aunt Martha's lovely silk pillows. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened them again, she was no longer in the library.

When Rebecca opened her eyes she was standing on a porch in the dark. There were trees, and a breeze blew gently against her sending tendrils of her hair to float. She tucked one strand of hair behind her ear and looked down. There was a kitten beside her red Keds. She felt a rush of sheer joy, gone were thoughts of vomit, and gross feelings. Bad feelings were replaced with a rush of love and cute.

Rebecca knelt and ran a hand over the kitten's head. It was soft and downy. The kitten purred sweetly, and then darted off to play with a lightening bug. Catching onto the fun, Rebecca decided to play too. She and Kitten frolicked for some time chasing the light-butted critters until something else caught Kitten's eyes. Kitten began running down the path that lead to the street.

"Wait Kitten!!!" Rebecca shouted, and her voice echoed in the night. Her feet pounded on the concrete as she chased after the white cat. Kitten ran fast, and as soon as she broke out of the fence, she didn't seem to follow any man-made course.

Rebecca wondered what it was they were chasing, but of course Kitten was a cat, and couldn't tell her. She tried to think like a cat. The cat was looking in the sky. Rebecca looked up. The moon shone pure and creamy white above. It seemed improbable to Rebecca that a cat would chase the moon. On the other hand, it was equally improbably that a girl would be sucked into a library book. Kitten ran and ran, and so did Rebecca.

"Kitten!!!" the voice belonged to someone else, and Rebecca turned to look back. A woman was standing far down the street holding up a bowl of milk. Suddenly, it all made sense to Rebecca. She looked at the moon, thinking it looked an awful lot like a bowl of milk even to her human eyes. She giggled, and picked Kitten up. She nuzzled against Kitten warmly, and then set her down in the direction of home. As Kitten's paws hit the pavement, Rebecca felt that odd pulling sensation again. She took one last look around and :: POP :: she was back in the library.
