The demon scam

Merle whines and rubs a hand to the bump on her head. "It hurts..." She stretches her arms to you and whimpers, looking close to tears.

The cat-like female blinks her eyes in slight surprise, flicking an ear. Then she says as she takes notice of Merle, "Aww, your poor thing! Don't cry, little one."

Merle blinks and looks up at the demon, suddenly becoming aware of her cat-like features. Her eyes widen in fascination, but she says nothing.
