Much of Nothing

"What's up the trail further?" You ask of your glassy eyed companions.

"Let's find out, shall we?" The girl Dudley brought to the park in the woods who is known as Terri replies.

"Lead on, man," says Dan.

You nod in acceptance and walk past them, taking the lead as they follow you further up the trail.

If the trail was difficult before, it is impossible now; taking sharp inclines that require more climbing than hiking. The width of the trail fluctuates dramatically as you continue along, at some points two can walk abreast while other areas are difficult to get through solo.

Dan grumbles the whole way, and it isn't long before Terri joins in. If you weren't leading the way, you have to admit that you would be bitching right along with them.

"Dude," Dan calls to you from several yards behind. "I can't do this shit no more."

"Yes you can," You tell him reassuringly.

"The fuck I can," he says, "There was a bench back there. I'll be waiting there for you."

"Look around you, Dan. It's beautiful out here. Do you really want to miss out on what's around the next bend?" You reason.

"There's plenty of nice scenery back at the bench," he tells you. "That's where I'll be."

He turns around and starts walking back, occasionally leaning on a nearby tree to steady himself. You watch him go a while in silence until you see Terri's eyes looking up at you. Her eyes are captivating and arousing. Once more you find yourself taking note of her overwhelming beauty.

"Maybe we should go back too," She says.

Damn it. So here it is. You're either going back or moving forward. Your legs cry for you to turn back, but your desire for adventure begs that you press on. Do you try to convince her to keep moving with you, or give in and head back to the car?
