There is a moment of silence where all you can hear is the sound of Claire's horse breathing. The silence is broken by a sudden and sharp crack of gunfire as Annie's rifle explodes and a bullet shoots forth.

Claire's head explodes like dynamite on a watermelon, a circle of crimson spraying the area around her body and she falls from her horse to the ground in a crumpled heap, her neck snapping on impact. Annie has always been a buck shot.

You wonder if you should have spoken up. Certainly the bitch has potentially ruined your life; but was death the answer? Should she have died for what she did to you?

You shake your head and clear the moral debate from your mind. It doesn't really matter much now, does it? She's dead, and whether death was the best answer or not doesn't matter. It was the answer. Nothing can take that back now. What's done is done.

"Damn it all, Annie!" Gus exclaims in a roar. "Was that really necessary?!"

"Sure it was." She says, lying back down with her rifle beside her.

"Crazy fucking bitch." Gus mutters to himself as he lies back down as well. "That's all we need is a damn corpse on our hands."

"She brought it on herself, Gus." Annie says.

"It wasn't bad enough that one of us fucked Paco's girl, now we've gone and killed her too." Gus says. It is dark, but you are sure that his face is a deep red. "Hell of a smooth fucking escape we're making. They'll never find us now. Maybe we should post some fucking signs up for them so they don't lose us. What do you think about that?"

His comments are met by nothing but silence.

You stand there for an indeterminable length of time, trying to cope with what just happened. You keep watch several hours longer than you are supposed to, figuring you wouldn't have been able to fall asleep anyhow.

Eventually your body's desire for rest overrides your minds active/shocked state, and you shake Gus awake for his watch.

You're not sure when you actually fell asleep, but the rays of sunlight awaken you in the morning. Standing up and stretching, you find that Gus and Annie are already preparing to depart.

You mount up and follow your companions away from the camp site. You don't stop moving until the sun starts to set. You find yourselves not far from a town, standing beside a "Welcome to Kallow" sign. You could all use a rest and you move your horses toward the town at a slow pace.

Immediately upon entering the town Annie dismounts and leaves checks you all into a room. You three always share a room when traveling, it saves on expenses. Gus takes the horses and leads them to the stables.

That leaves you all alone. There is a Saloon not far off, you could use a drink after last night, and would prefer to keep your whiskey flask for emergencies. On the other hand, it might not be a bad idea to restock your supply of traveling rations. At least that would be productive.

What do you decide?
