Heart of an Assassin

You are out buying some supplies for your family in the village. It is quite a hot day, and the constant calling of traders is giving you a continuous headache. You keep on wiping your brow to stop the sweat from trickling into your eyes and blinding you. You didn't want to go out today. You wanted to stay at home and help your older sister get ready for her wedding.

Most of the women browsing the market know you, and call out greetings as you pass them. You respond politely, but don't stop to chat. Most of them, especially Mrs. Tomoe, would keep you in idle talk for hours.

It is as you are walking back that you see the smoke rising from the direction your house is in.

You go still, trying to tell yourself that it's probably nothing. Just your imagination, or someone burning something in their garden. But you can't shake the feeling of dread that has closed around your soul, and your hands feel clammy. You keep a death grip on the basket carrying the supplies you were sent to get.

What should you do?
