A Tale of Two Choices

"You, girl, are a lier and a thief. You told me that you were hiding a piece of bread, and what do I find? A precious locket that is not yours," and with this Noah slapped Dorothea again. His hand left a red mark on Dorothea's cheek and the noise rang out in the now silent room.

"No gruel for you today. Or for the rest of the week. Now go back to your work."

Dorothea turned her heels and walked away, throwing the locket with force at Jane. She returned to her stool in the work room and picked up her sacking, and the large rusty needle that she worked with.

"I must get out of here," she thought to herself. "I shall die if I spend another night. But I want to humiliate Noah Trystell the way he has humiliated me."
