The Black Citadel

Part 3 – The Central Spire
The bare stone room seems to be empty though it reeks of dried blood and orc sweat. Nonetheless, you and Vandil still draw your swords and walk in carefully. In the total darkness you hear nor feel another presence except Vandil walking next to you. Two torches are burning on the wall which breaks a little light in the darkness so you can make out, on either side of the torches, two large wooden doors in front of you. Vandil pushes the doors open inwards quietly and you both step through into the room beyond.

This room has a little more light emanating from the torches dotted around on the walls and the few in the centre of the room sitting in iron brackets. The room is quite large and it seems to be some sort of grand hall. Large contorted looking stone columns rise up in two long rows into the darkness above you. Along the walls, under the dancing flicker of light from the torches, you can make out an assortment of different stone statues of different gnarled and evil looking mythical creatures. You jump suddenly when something brushes past you face. Whatever it was flies past you into the blackness above and Vandil whispers,

"Bats!"

Large banners are hanging from the walls around you that seem to be all only black and red in colour. Strange emblems are emblazoned upon them along with a script you cannot decipher. You turn behind and notice two identical grand staircases that wind up from both sides to the floor above. You motion to Vandil and you both turn around and make your way up the right hand staircase.

The top of the staircase leads to a wide corridor of dark polished stone. You soon come to a corridor heading right that you go down until you come to fork. Vandil motions to go left and you follow. You soon come to a door on your right that has a flicker of light emanating from under it.
