Yes...someone could be in the hall the door leads to, so you continue walking in the same hall. You go down one flight of stairs and the next without meeting enemies.
On the second last level you see many Krollos. They do not seem to have noticed you, since they are not blocking the way. You could fight them, or try to sneak past.
