Dogfight
You dive low to build up airspeed, dodging rifle shots as best as you can. Clear of the immediate danger, you spot a flat ahead and drop the wounded bird onto it. It catches a wheel, and spins about, snapping the undercarriage and the lower wing.
You pause just a moment to thank Jesus, Mary AND Joseph. Acknowledgements complete, you fire your flare gun into the wreck, then drop it to raise your hands for the Kraut infantrymen who come over the hill.
You lose a good two stone in the prison camp, but you get home. Eventually, your children tire of you telling them about this day, but they love you enough never to say so.
