Lara's debt

Lara parks the sedan in the shadows of the tree line and steps out into the cool morning air. As she walks briskly across the damp grass toward the estate, she is still completely unable to believe the extreme lengths she went to the night before just to survive. The lingering physical soreness in her body is a raw, uncomfortable reminder of the price she paid. Her jaw tightens, and she forces her focus back to the mission. She expects to find the manor crawling with guards, a police cruiser parked out front, or the bailiff's team moving furniture. Instead, she is met with an eerie, absolute silence. She is entirely unaware that the authorities and the lawyer unexpectedly evacuated the entire manor late last night. The grand front doors are unlocked, slightly ajar, and swinging gently in the morning breeze. The lights inside are completely dead. As Lara cautiously steps across the threshold into the dark, empty foyer, she realizes the house is completely hollowed out—not by moving trucks, but abandoned in a hurry.
