Growth and Grit
As you assess your situation, you can see that you can no longer go on with the group. You then decide to bike home and take it easy so that you don't injure yourself more but instead live to ride another day. You take it easy on your ride home, and when you do you are relieved to find bandaids and ice packs to help you with a speedier recovery. You may not be able to ride with your friends for a bit, but that's okay because you are now ready to bike harder than you have ever biked before and begin to deliberately practice and train on harder hills and trails. This is all being done for a local bike race that is coming up that you want to compete in.
