Reservoir
Priyan and I went to the lake again, but this time without Rex. I felt strange going there without him. The lake was more empty than it had been before.
I practiced floating on my back for a bit, then I started my practice again.
"You're doing good. Keep up your practice." Priyan says beside me.
I'm glad he's there with me. I practice a little more, and I notice my breathing. I start to slow it down, and I feel the panic come off of me.
"Relax, you'll go in the water if you tense up." The ferret guided me.
"You're doing great!" I hear him say.
I finish my practice and get out of the water. I look to see if Priyan is there.
"You can go swimming with me!" I say.
He nods "I'm going in!" He says, and splashes into the water.
I swim towards him "You're funny." I say
"Yeah, I'm a riot."
I join him in the water. The two of us float on our backs in the water. I close my eyes to rest them for a moment
"That was great!" I hear Priyan say.
Then I feel something on my back. I open my eyes and see a school of small fish dancing around my body
"What's this?" I ask
Priyan says, "Looks like we have some company."
The fish were no bigger than my palm. They swam around us, and then dashed off towards the center of the lake. I felt a little tickle on my belly. The fish were chasing a tiny bug. I wondered if that was what was making the fish move around so frantically. Then a little fish brushed up against my stomach. I opened my mouth to get it. It brushed my teeth, and then darted back under.
I reached for it, but it ran away again. I watched as dozens of fish brushed against me. They were trying to get the bugs off of me. I guess they thought I was their enemy. Maybe they were right.
I kept watching the fish dance around me. I started to feel sleepy. I tried to keep my eyes open, but it was getting too hard. Then a fish brushed against me. I felt it's body along my fur. It was soft and warm. It felt good. The fish were all around me, and I felt safe. I closed my eyes to rest them for a moment.
When I woke up, the fish were gone. The sun was high in the sky. We were on the shore. I looked over at Priyan and saw he was already up. He was stretching, and preparing to walk.
"I don't think I want to do this anymore." I told him.
"Wanna go home?"
I nodded. He got up, but stood still. It seemed like he saw something in the distance. I looked behind me and saw a donkey staring at the lake. He was wearing a black shirt, and his hair was styled into something that was trendy a few years back. He wore light makeup as well. He was obviously a goth.
"Mordred." Priyan says quietly behind me.
Priyan started to go up to the donkey "Mordred!"
Mordred was Priyan's boyfriend in high school. It couldn't work out because of Priyan moving to Sacramento after graduation, and just a year after, Mordred had moved to Payton. Now here he was, and Priyan couldn't be any more excited to see him.
The donkey then takes notice to Priyan and gets a look of suprise on his face.
"Priyan?" He says, "Is it really you?"
"Yes, it's me." Priyan answers
"When did you come back to Echo?" Mordred asks
"Saturday." He says
"Rex is here too." I say as well
"What are you doing here at the lake?" Priyan asks
"Just getting a view. I heard a kid drowned in here a few months back."
"Pretty sad." Priyan shrugs "It almost cancelled our trip as well."
"Well I'm glad you're back." Mordred smiles, and gives the ferret a hug.
The two share a quick hug, then part. Priyan walks over and sits next to me. He picks up a rock and starts playing with it.
"You know what would be a good addition to this place?"
I shook my head
"A gothic tower." Priyan laughs.
I looked over at him. He seemed happier after seeing Mordred again.
We sat there for the rest of the day. We didn't do anything specific. We just sat there together. I felt like doing something, but I didn't know what. I sat there until night fell. By then, Priyan was still awake, but his head was resting on my shoulder. I felt sleepy as well.
"You want to try it again tomorrow?" I asked. "We can have a nice day and swim around in the water again."
He nodded.
