"Sure." I say
I grab my phone and walk out the door.
"Come on." I tell him
He gets up and follows me. We head back to his car. I get in the car. He gets in the car. He starts driving toward the house. I look at him. He's looking at me. Our eyes meet.
"Eyes on the road, dumbass." I say to him
He just smiles. I can't help but smile back. We drive back to my house in silence.
We walk inside. I'm exhausted. I know I should at least change my clothes, but I just want to sleep for a week. We walk into my room.
I fall on the bed. I decide sleep isn't going to happen. I get up and get changed into a pair of yoga pants and a tank top. I look out the window. Sunset. The sky is a nice shade of orange. I should go for a walk. I should do something. I should...
"I'm starving. What's for dinner?" Rex asks behind me.
I turn around. He's standing in the doorway to my room. I laugh. It's a nervous laugh. It turns into a real one. I don't know why I'm laughing, but I can't stop. I'm going to pee my pants if I don't stop. I put my hand over my mouth. I laugh some more.
"Jesus Christ, stop." He says.
He gets a small chuckle out of that.
"Yeah, yeah. Let me look in my fridge."
I walk to the kitchen and look in my fridge. I see a container of salad. That'll work. I grab it. I check my freezer. There's not much in there I can grab. I pull out a package of chicken breasts. Should be enough. I grab a bowl and a sieve. I set it on the counter.
"What're you making?" Rex asked
"Chicken breasts with a side of salad."
He smiles. "So you're going to cook?"
I nod. I get out some seasoning and start preparing the chicken breasts. I start to cook the chicken on the pan. I'm so nervous, I can't taste anything, but I can taste something. I finish the chicken.
I grab forks and napkins and set the table. I then serve the chicken and the salad. Rex takes a bite of his chicken. I take a bite of my chicken. It's good. I don't know why I'm so nervous around him. I just am. I finish eating. I'm stuffed.
"This was good. Thanks for cooking." Rex says "You want me to do the dishes for you?"
I shake my head. "No, I can do the dishes."
He smiles. "Okay. I'll be in the living room if you need me."
I nod.
I finish cleaning up. I walk into the living room. Rex turns on the TV.
"We should watch a movie." He says.
We both pick a movie. We sit on the couch and watch the movie. I realize I'm actually enjoying ourselves. I fall asleep on the couch.
I wake up a few hours later. Rex is asleep next to me. He slept in his clothes. I look at the TV. The TV is off. The room is silent. I get up and turn the TV back on. I find something that reminds me of my life before.
Before I met the guys. Before the accident...
