The Great Sael Adventure 1
This is neither your nor the Commodore's first time hunting. You know you need the right tool for the right job in order to get what you need out of this situation. You start assigning various tasks to various individuals: some to sharpen rocks for the spears, some to collect sticks and chop down trees for the spears, some to build a fire and makeshift forge for creating stronger metal arrowheads for the spears, some to make tea for the rest of the company who are making spears, and some to form an ad hoc political committee to make decisions about actions on the island.
Journeyman Jerry Jerensen volunteers to survey the outer ring of the island jungle. He marches off, making journeyman noises (e.g., "Bra-ra-ra-hra-ha-ra-ha", and makes his way into the bushes and ferns. Within 10 minutes, he returns to the main camp (which has already been quickly established, and its first census conducted and reported to the ad hoc political committee, who are taking their jobs very seriously), shivering, and making cold journeyman noises (e.g., "B-b-brr-ba-r-r-ra-b-b-bra-ha-hra-a-a"), and exclaiming "It's c-c-colder than b-b-balls in th-there!"
Brigadier Beary Bearensen approaches center stage, carrying a crate full of Fur-'N'-A-Can™, looking around suspiciously. He loudly asks, "Hey there, Commodore, uh, if I may....*bear noises*" to which the Commodore replies "Uh, sure, Beary. Go ahead, I guess."
Beary asks for a volunteer. Venny the Volunteerman eagerly raises his hand (which, incidentally, is missing two fingers from previous volunteering mishaps), saying, "Pick me, Beary! Pick me! I'd like to volunteer!" and faster than Beary Bearensen can say "*bear noises*", Venny rushes up to the meet him. Quite a circle has formed as the whole crew develops a case of curiosity that needs to be cured.
Beary vigorously shakes a can of Fur-'N'-A-Can™—as described in the instructions on the bottle—for about 3–5 seconds. He then aims and sprays at Venny the Volunteerman, covering the man in a brownish-greyish frothy foam. While this is happening, Beary warns the assembled crowd, "Now, this is water soluble. If you get it wet, it will come off. And it will clog your drain, so it is recommended that you rinse off in a river, creek, or suchalike fresh water source. *bear noises*" Once the mist dissolves, Venny is covered entirely from head to toe in fur—everywhere except his eyeballs.
Beary hollers out a bellowing command, "Go the jungle and bring me back: ONE! A report of how cold it is! TWO! A report of how chilly it is! THREE! A report of how your toesies feel! FOUR! A report of how soft you are!"
Venny scampers into the jungle and back out again, returning to the crew, shouting "It's fine, sir! Totally fine! It's not cold at all, or even chilly, my toesies are warm, and I'm so soft!!! Wheee!!! *Volunteer noises*."
Despite this somewhat disconcerting display, it is apparent that in order to retrieve the needed supplies from the inner ring of the island, additional crewmen must face this same furry fate. You assign those men who did not yet have a duty to get sprayed with Fur-'N'-A-Can™ and make their way into the jungle. Beary, being already completely covered with hair (or fur? It's honestly hard to tell) has no need to spray himself, leading one to wonder why he came prepared with so much Fur-'N'-A-Can™; either way, he leads the nature expedition. Those men work to set a cold-weather (CW) camp while the others on the beach continue with their hunting duties.
As work progresses, the spears are delivered to the CW camp, and whatever they're doing in the CW camp remains a mystery. One day, several men come out to the beach carrying a caribou. This alarming and somewhat surreal event triggers a new development in your island society. The Commodore says it's important to come up with a system of governance while on the island, because it might be a while. There are two main choices he sees as potentially viable.
