Mirror To The Past
Chaz quickly grabbed the red belt. It was a simple cloth belt, with only one hole he made himself. While this was not a brand new red belt, he felt that even though life brings new changes, it is not unwise to retain the bright passionate elements of the past in one's memory. He knew that there were bright elements in his past that he could grasp onto as life unfolded before him.
As he put the red belt on, he noticed on his dresser two very important things. The first thing he observed was the photo of his mother's beautiful face. She had died in 2017, but he remembered her smile as if it was yesterday. The thought of her face brought two things to his own face, one a tear, because he missed her deeply and two, a smile because he loved her.
The other important thing he noticed was an unopened letter from a prestigious university, from the same year his mother had died in 2017. He always wondered what his fate might have been had he opened the letter, but Chaz was often prone to fears of rejection, so he had never opened the letter. The letter could even be a life changing experience in the present, because if he was accepted, he could possibly still find a way to make University happen. This would greatly impact how the future of his life would be, and provide him new pathways.
He decided to pick up the item that was most important to him. He knew that if he picked up the photo of his mother a piece of his heart would be brought into the future with him. On the other hand, he knew that if he picked up the letter, the potential of a new and exciting fate would become more possible than keeping the letter sealed.
