And All Things Will End

You run toward the beast, your left side nearly pressing against the cave wall. It swings a calcified arm at your head, but you expected this and duck underneath it. Your scalp is scraped by the dusty and tough sandpaper skin of the arm, but your momentum carries you through. You swiftly turn and face the back of the beast. A gaping maw leers at you between the shoulder blades, a intestinal tongue hanging inside. The teeth are composed of shattered bones, and form a pulsing circle. Just underneath that lies a circular growth, tinted red. It is vaguely skull-shaped and the callouses covering it are weak, as though it was in the process of shedding in order to from thicker armor. The mouth closes, and drool interspersed with blood leaks from it. You strike with the tip of your sword into the tumor below. A chunk falls from it, revealing pinker skin. Bile flavored pus spews from the crack. The beast drops Aela and lumbers around. Its hands find their mark and grasp you tightly. Blood vessels pop, and bones snap like twigs under the feet of petulant schoolchildren. Your eyes start to crawl out of their sockets.

Then the arms twitch, and its grip is loosened. You pry yourself free and see Aela plunging her daggers into the hide of the beast over and over with the speed of a panther. Judging by the liquid coating her arms and partially obscuring her face, she seems to have been capitalizing on the mark you made and pushed her blades deep.

The creature launches an elbow back toward her, but she deftly backs just out of its range. The mouth opens wide and lets out a terrible howl. Ahe stabs again, and with your aid forces the creature to the ground. You both stab into the brain over and over, until the mouth ceases jabbering and the creature is still. Blood, dead skin, and pus cover your sword, with chunks of engorged brain sticking to it. You rest briefly, then continue down a neighboring passage.

For a brief moment you believe you have found respite, but bloodless screams echoing from all directions quickly prove otherwise.

Eyes line the walls of this cave, and you poke them out when you rest your hand.
