You open the gate of the white picket fence and go through and ring the bell of the neat looking house. It's opened by a woman. She's perhaps in her 40s but looking well on it. You can't help notice her voluptuous figure that she's chosen to highlight by wearing a tightly-fitting, almost corsetted short dress. It comes off her shoulders and there is a black ribbon bow at the front of a low neckline. You do your best not to stare at her cleavage, but it's not easy.
"Hello, I was wondering if you could help me. My car's broken down..."
"Come on in you poor thing!" She ushers you inside and closes the door behind you. The house is warm and cosy. There are thick pink carpets and patterned wallpaper. You take off your muddy shoes and begin to explain what's happened. "Don't you worry. Come on and let's get you warmed up! My name is Diana, but you can just call me Dee." You're led through to a kitchen and D eestarts to make a hot drink. She explains there aren't any telephone lines to this small set of houses, which isn't really a village, just a small collection of cottages for people who like the quiet life. She offers to drive you to the nearby town in the morning, if you want to stay the night. Under the circumstances you gratefully accept.
She makes you a hot chocolate and begins to explain what brought her to this place. She always wanted children but had a husband who was married to his job and too busy for a family. When they divorced she received a healthy financial settlement, but not the thing her heart was set on. She came out here a year ago to make a clean break from her old life. "It's funny, though, even though I know it's not going to happen, sometimes I dream of the life I could haver had, feel the role of the mother is within me. I suppose I'm the nurturing type."
You finish your drink but are still in wet clothes and rather muddy in this clean, warm home. "I think I have something you can wear," she smiles at you, "Have a shower - I can have your clothes washed and dried by the morning."
