Horror of Horrors!
You sidle next to Von. You catch Will's eye. Then you glance down at the floor and slide your foot behind Von's leg. Will nods.
"We don't want to be in MagnifiCAT's show," you declare. "We're going home."
"That is impossible," Von replies. "You must come with me now."
"Now?" Will asks.
"Now!" you shout.
You lift your leg behind Von's knee. Will puts both hands on the man's chest and gives him a shove. Von goes flying backward and crashes to the floor!
"Run for it!" you yell.
You and Will sprint toward the door. That's weird, you think. The closer you get, the stranger the door looks. It seems to be fading...disappearing. You blink hard. The door is gone! It its place you see a solid brick wall.
Will gasps and grabs your shoulder. You both skid to a stop. A shallow pit appears in the floor in front of you. You shriek when you stare down at writhing knots of deadly rattlesnakes!
Are they real? Or just an illusion?
You glance over your shoulder. Von is getting to his feet and he looks mad. From the stage, a voice booms, "Von! Bring me my two volunteers!"
"At once, MagnifiCAT," Von shouts back. He heads toward you.
Okay, you think. Which way---snakes or Von?
