Horror of Horrors!
"Come on," you urge Will. "Quick!" You turn to face the snake pit.
"Are you nuts?" he shouts. "The door is gone! And the snakes will kill us!"
"Yeah, well, we'll still be killed by that magician if we stay," you reply. "Besides, why would he go to so much trouble just to keep us away from a blank wall? I bet he just hid the door with a spell."
"B-b-b-but the snakes!" Will declares.
"They're just an illusion."
By now Von is only a few steps away. Behind him you can see MagnifiCAT leave the stage. He raises his magic wand.
A ball of flame sails across and explodes against the wall.
"Are you coming or not?" you implore Will.
He shivers. "I can't. I'm scared!"
"I'm more scared of staying here," you tell Will.
You turn and take a deep breath. Behind you, Will lets out a yell. Von must have grabbed him.
The door reappears! You knew you were right. You sprint through the snake pit.
The snakes are an illusion, you tell yourself.
If only Will had believed you, he'd be on his way to safety too.
Just ahead is a giant eight-foot-long diamond-back rattler. It pulls its head back to strike.
"Yeah! Snake rhymes with fake!" you taunt as you dart past.
The two fangs catch you in the calf. As the venom spreads up your leg, you try to tell yourself the pain is just an illusion. Now try telling yourself this is not
