Erinyes Game
You pick up yet another pomegranate. What a weird craving you’re having today. As you dig in, you notice something wrapped in plastic in the center of the fruit. Carefully, you dig it out and slip it into your pocket. Aphrodite doesn’t seem to notice this, too engrossed in her cereal.
“Morning, ladies.” Hades’s voice surprises the both of you. “I have a task for both of you to complete before you can finish this game. First, I need the two of you to split up. There will be one last enemy after you: an extra Fury I had stashed away. You can’t both hide together at the start, so one of you go to one end of this building and one to the other. If you can successfully evade your attacker and survive, then I will declare you a winner and allow you to leave. However, if you are caught, then you will not be able to leave. Understand?”
Both of you nod mutely.
“Very good. Now, I’ll give you a ten minute head start before I release the Fury. Use your time well.” He falls silent.
“I can’t believe this.”
Aphrodite looks determined. “We’re both gonna survive, okay? When time is up, we’ll meet in the judgement room and we’ll both leave the game. Everything will be fine.” She squeezes your hand and you split up.
You head towards the entertainment room but keep walking, not wanting to be trapped in there. You walk down the multiple hallways were you first spoke to Hermes—plenty of hiding spots here.
As you settle down in an empty room, you remember what you’d found in your pomegranate earlier. Unwrapping the plastic, you see that it’s a little earpiece, which you place in your ear.
“Finally, you put it on, I’ve been waiting ages.” Hades’s voice, loud and clear.
“Not you, not now,” you groan.
He chuckles. “I may prove to be useful to you, Hestia. Believe it or not, I would like you to live.”
“Sure,” you reply sarcastically. “And I want to stay here forever.”
Undeterred, Hades says, “Now that I’m speaking to you on your own without Aphrodite, I must inform you of your secret objective.”
“My what?”
“In order to survive, you have to kill the Fury chasing after you.”
“Why must I kill them? Can’t I just hide?” You plead with him.
“No, Hestia. If you don’t kill this person, they can and will kill you. The ultimate survival tactic. Understand?”
You nod slowly, hating it. “Yes, Hades.”
“Excellent.”
Just then, you notice another pomegranate in the corner of the room.
