Erinyes Game
You wake up with gold and red tints in your periphery. Sitting up, you see a single pomegranate on your bedsheets right in front of you.
“Hades?” You mumble, still half asleep. “Did you put this here?”
“Maybe Aphrodite did,” he says, tone light and teasing.
You roll your eyes, not in the mood for him. “Whatever, Hades. Is the game over yet?”
“Unfortunately, no.”
“What? But all the Furies are gone,” you protest as you get dressed.
“Sure, but where’s the fun in having this game end so suddenly? Maybe I need you and Aphrodite to do one last thing for me before you can leave.”
“Will we both be able to leave?”
“Perhaps.”
“Cryptic as always, aren’t you?” Picking up the pomegranate, you help yourself to a couple of seeds. Something feels oddly familiar about it, like déjà vu, but you ignore this feeling and head downstairs.
Aphrodite, looking exhausted, is shoveling cereal into her mouth.
“Morning, Aphrodite,” you say, more cheerfully than you feel.
She greets you in the same way. “Today must be the last day, right?”
“Yeah, Hades spoke to me in my room and said that he needs us to do something before we can leave.”
“Really? But what?”
You shrug, looking around for something to eat before looking at the fruit bowl.
