Erinyes Game
Taking a deep breath, you point at Hephaestus along with Aphrodite, while he points at Aphrodite.
“I’m so sorry, Hephaestus,” you whisper, trying not to cry, “but I believe in Aphrodite.”
Hephaestus forces a small smile. “It’s okay, Hestia. Just know that I really enjoyed spending time with you these past few days. I hope you survive.”
His metal choker glows gold and red, and the metal itself starts to melt, burning his neck. He cries out as the metal burns its way down, looking for all the world like a stream of lava. The lava melts its way through his neck, severing his head. No blood comes out of the cauterized wound, which somehow isn’t reassuring.
You and Aphrodite get up at the same time, giving each other a hug.
“We’re here,” she says. “It’s over.” When she releases you, she holds your hand tightly.
“Congrats, my final two,” says Hades. “In honor of your success, no one will die tonight.” Aphrodite squeezes your hand almost painfully. “Go get some rest, ladies. You’ll need it.”
“Wonder what that means,” you mumble as you head upstairs.
“Have a good night, Hestia,” says Aphrodite with a tired smile.
That night, your dreams are tinted red and gold. Trapped inside a volcano, you fight to stay above the rising lava. As you climb up the rocky surface of the volcano, you can feel the heat against your back.
You reach up to grab the next rock to pull yourself higher, but it crumbles underneath your hands. You lose your footing, falling right into the lava. Your body bursts into flames as your skin burns horribly. Maybe you’ll burn into ashes and be reborn, like a phoenix.
