Erinyes Game

You follow your friends to the entertainment room where they start up a simple board game, but you can hardly focus. After the fifth time of accidentally tossing the dice onto the floor instead of the table, Aphrodite pokes your arm.

“Okay, Hestia. What’s going on with you today?”

“Something’s clearly wrong,” says Hermes. “Come on, talk to us.”

You fiddle with the dice, rolling them between your fingers. “It’s just…last night I saw Zeus and Demeter together,” you blurt out. You recount the event to them and by the end, their jaws are dropped.

“No way! Zeus did that?” Gasped Aphrodite.

“Whoa…do you think Hera knows?” Asks Hermes.

You shake your head. “Not sure. I didn’t get the chance to tell her anything. Do you think I should?”

“Let’s not cause a stir right now. How about you tell everyone at the Moirae phase?” Suggests Aphrodite, and you agree. You’re able to play games with a lighter heart.

Some time later, you head to the kitchen for a snack and encounter Hera on her own, eating ice cream right out of a tub.

“Hello, Hestia,” she says. “Did you hear something last night? I could’ve sworn I heard something before Nyx phase, but when I went to look I didn’t see anything. And I didn’t have time to search before Nyx started.”

You take a deep breath. Might as well get it over with. “I’ve been meaning to tell you, so I’ll tell you now. It was Zeus and Demeter.” You tell her what you told Aphrodite and Hermes. Her grip tightens around her spoon.

“Really, now?” Her voice is low and dangerous, and you’re thankful that her glare isn’t aimed at you.. “Thank you for your honesty, Hestia. I believe I know the truth, especially since Demeter’s now dead.” Hera turns her sharp gaze on you. “Can I count on you to vote for Zeus tonight?”

“What are you saying…he killed Demeter?”

“I’ll explain everything during that phase, I promise. At the very least, just tell everyone what you just told me. You’ll understand.”

You nod slowly. “Okay, Hera. I’ll see you then.”
