Nag climbs the trees, being careful to avoid the knife- sharp edges of the branches and twigs. At one point, a twig rips her shorts a bit at the top. At another point, a twig snags through her jerkin and tears off a couple of buttons at the bottom.
She manages to get to the vine, and swings across the pond. Normally, she'd stop and swing more to gain momentum, but from the test she'd performed, she knows that isn't an option. The tentacle shoots out, but misses her by a few inches.
At the furthest point of the swing, she jumps. Instead of landing on a branch, her hands catch hold of the branch, and the tip rests above the buttons of her jerkin. She pulls herself up, but this causes the branch to rip off the remaining buttons, leaving the tunic open.
