Homicide and Havoc on Halloween
"I don’t think we should go trick or treating...we are too old for this!" You say in a calm tone, as if you as trying to hypnotize her into agreeing not to go. It does not work at all. Instead she she looks longingly at you with her big, glossy eyes. "Ugh, I guess we can go for a little bit,” you say as you finish packing and start to head out the door. Scarlett squeals with excitement, and she rushes out of the class to catch up with you. Instantly, she squishes you with a big thank-you-hug. "Let's get out of here," you say, "Meet me at my house later." When your mom finally arrives in her car to pick you up, you are no longer in the mood for talking.
On the long drive home your mom begins to pester you with the usual endless questions like, “How was your day? Are you going trick or treating? Is Scarlett coming over? Do you have a costume for tonight? I really need you to go trick or treating with your sister, since I will be on call tonight.” The questions pile on you, one after another, until you finally blurt out, "Today was fine. Yes, I am going trick or treating with Scarlett. Yes, she is coming over. No, I do not have a costume, and no, I do not want to take my sister with us." Your mom then suddenly turns to face you. A stern, ice cold look is plastered across her face. “You will not use that tone with me, young lady, and because of that tone you will be taking your sister along with you as well. No further discussions on the matter,” she retorts at you. “Ok, I will do it,” you mumble,”I’m sorry I was rude, mom. It won’t happen again.” The stern look on her face slowly disappears, as to signal her forgiveness. Once you arrive home Scarlett is already waiting for you on your doorsteps. You notice her wearing a bright pink unicorn onzie and that she is holding a replica of the costume in her other hand, most probably for you. “Oh boy..”You groan. You and Scarlett go to your room to get completely ready. Once you are all glammed up and ready to go, you head to the front door where your mom has a camera ready. She immediatley starts clicking and there are flashes everwhere. Once the flashes die down, Octavia rushes out from her room and dashes out the door. You can immediately see the trick or treaters dart past you, the screams of excited children, and the vibrant lights and decorations. You decide to start with the houses on your street first. Octavia dashes from house to house with you and Scarlett close behind.
You’ve finally hit every street in your neighborhood. “Let’s go to the other neighborhood across this road,” Octavia begs you. The street is filled with cars racing up and down it. Plus, it is a wide road, and there was no place to stop in the middle if a car suddenly sped up in a lane.
