Out of Time

After Evita leaves, you feel stunned at first, but you manage to convince yourself that you can do this without her. Before you can stop yourself, a white light nearly blinds you.

You blink twice, finding yourself wading in the crystal blue waters of Hawaii. You see your parents playing with a little version of you on the beach. You’re building your first sand castle and your parents watch you admiringly. “Why am I here?” you wonder to yourself. You swim effortlessly through the water towards the beach to get a closer look.

“You’re doing so good, Amara!” Your mother coos. You swim a little closer, wondering what is so important about this one memory.

Finally, you reach the beach and watch as two year old you slaps sand on top of the messiest sand castle you’ve ever seen. Your parents act like you’re Picasso, and this sand castle is a true artist’s masterpiece. You smile, getting lost in your thoughts for the time being. You watch for a few minutes, realizing that the reason you decided to come here was because it was one of the first happy memories that you have in your head. However, this memory doesn't have any clues to how you ended up in the coma, so even though your heart is at peace here, your brain tells you you should go back to the hospital.

Do you choose to go back to the hospital or stay at the ocean?
