Four Kingdoms, The

You decide to look for whatever is making the awful sound. Maybe you're making the wrong decision, but the map could be inaccurate and the cabin gives you the creeps. You'd rather be on your own two feet than inside some abandoned cabin in the middle of the forest. Just for good measure, you study the map. In relation to the cabin on the map, you're outside its boundries. The map won't be helpful to you anymore. You put it back into your pocket. Maybe later it will give you some idea of who you are, but right now you don't trust it. You feel the dollar bills in your pocket, still clean and crisp. At least you remember what money feels like.

As you move forward, the noise becomes louder and you almost feel a deep throbbing within your skull. Eventually, you adjust to it and take note of the low-pitched groan that is repeated as if by a great crowd. What's going on? You spin around, trying to place the noise, but it seems to be all around you. You finally stare in a specific direction, certain that's where the noise is coming from. You walk forward, your determination being stronger than your fear. You step over tire tracks and wonder what could have created them.

As you push through a section of trees, you see a group of creatures slowly walking forward and making a horrible groaning noise. They move in a straight line and seem to resemble a cross between a human and a demon. Their skin is a palish green, the pallor of their faces slightly overshadowed by the unearthly color. Something about them doesn't seem quite right, as if they were pulled apart and stitched back together again. With horror, you suddenly realize what they are—zombies!

Something inside you tells you to run, and you want to follow this instinct. It seems your best bet at staying alive. But if there are some zombies, there could be more—hundreds! In any case, you don't want to go running off without assessing the threat. Maybe you should follow the zombies and see where they're headed. It might be your only chance.
