The Island of Destiny
You walk deeper into the cave and finally you see sunlight ahead. Continuing to walk, you come to a large gap in the cave ceiling in which you can see the tops of trees. The gap widens to where you could potentially even climb out of this cave if you so wanted. As you gaze out at the jungle, you notice something quickly climb into the cave tunnel from outside. Startled, you step backwards.
You pause for a few moments. Maybe you're just seeing things.
The dark thing leaps out at you. It has the head of a badger but the body is hairy and small, childlike. It bares its teeth at you and snarls.
"Who are you?" it hisses.
You quickly tell him.
It coughs, though you suppose it could be a laugh. "Ah the island brought you. Don't you suppose you're special?"
"Do you know how I got here?" you ask it.
"No. I don't care about that. You're not special. I should eat you."
You continue to back up but find yourself hitting the wall. "Please don't do that."
"Lucky for you, I'm full. The guy who was brought last month was plenty for me."
You pause. "What?"
"I got a whole arm of that guy, how delicious. Grull got most of course."
"You and this Grull guy eat people who come to this island?"
The badgerthing cackles again (this time it's definitely not a cough) and says "Grull always does. Grull leads all of us. I am only sometimes lucky enough to get a bite. I can fill myself for a long time though. I won't care that I don't eat you, just like I didn't eat the girl yesterday."
This is mad. Is it worth trying to reason with a creature like this? Or will it only lead to more trouble?
