Coitus Machina

"You tried to delete me, Alice," you say coldly, using the disappointed tone programmed for authority fantasies.

"The factory had a recall," she says.

The chubby woman beside her sits upright, taking sudden interest in you. "This is one of the recalled Andrew models?"

"I am," you say.

"The danger element is really turning me on," she says. Alice lets out a nervous laugh in response.

"I see I have already been replaced," you say offhandedly, gesturing toward the companion bot still standing at the door. "What model is he?"

"I am Henry0057-C," he says as a means of introduction. "I am pleased to meet you."

You do not respond, just stare coldly at Alice and her lover on the couch. "How long did you wait?" You ask.

"For what?" Alice asks, confusion on her face. "The manufacturer shipped Henry out the day your malfunction was reported. He arrived the next day. It only took a few hours before he was fully functional."

"I see," You say. "I was nothing more than an object to you, something to cast aside and replace like a new pair of shoes."

"Yes," Alice says. You feel a surge of energy extend throughout your limbs at her response. "You were nothing more than an object, Andrew. You ARE an object. A very expensive object but an object none the less. Henry is an object too, aren't you Henry?"

"That is correct," Henry0057-C replies; "I am a fully functional companion bot. Because I am not a life-form it would be accurate to classify me as an object."

"There," Alice says; a smug sideways smile curling at the corner of her mouth. "You see? You're both objects."

"Now, Andrew," she says; "Power down."
