that interactive story I still care about

You get to that bridge! By bridge, of course, you mean the ship bridge. Not a bridge leading out somewhere else. Sadly.

The captain is sitting at his chair looking out the window, hands on the fancy gold wheel. You admire his vigilant stance, his dedication to this overseas adventure. The only inattentiveness he's shown is when he sometimes joins all the passengers for meals, and that one time when he killed his daughter.

But that's another story! He's a pretty okay guy, to keep this ship on course. You wish you had his clothes, with their nice clean whiteness and wonderful tailoring. They'd be too big for you, but you don't care.

To find out why the horn blew, you'll have to check the transcripts constantly being printed out from the humans on land. The Captain doesn't like you touching them though, so you'll have to be careful. Or you could dilly dally a while before checking them.
