Fired!
I proceed to Linda's office. As I enter the door, I hear Linda say, "Please come in." I glance to my right and notice Gemma busily typing on the computer. I enter another door and see Linda motioning at me to take a seat. She appears to be in a heated conversation with someone on the phone. She hangs up as I approach.
"To start, I'll give you a background of the company" she says, as she proceeds to narrate a brief history of her company and what she expects from me. I glance around and notice a shelf-full of architecture and interior design magazines. On the wall are three sets of color charts. A small ref sits on one corner of the office and beside it is a fabric sofa with paint stains.
Linda ends her talk with a warning. "Just because you're my niece's boyfriend does not mean you have special privileges. I will treat you like any other worker. Is that understood?"
"Yes, ma'am," I nod.
"I have an appointment and I'm running late. I want you to go over this little booklet of company rules. When you're done, leave it on my table, then ask Gemma for your work assignment." As she rushes out the first door, I hear her tell Gemma, "Give him fifteen minutes." As I start to read the first paragraph, I hear Linda yell, "John, can you please hand me my brown shoulder bag? You're closer." I quickly snatch the bag from the table and dash towards Linda, handing her the bag.
As I walk back to my seat to continue reading the booklet, I notice a small plastic object on the floor. Maybe it fell off Linda's bag when I grabbed it from the table. I pick it up and notice that it has a number of buttons, but the buttons were too few to be for the remote control of a television or projector. It must be for something else.
What should I do with the object?
