Relic

The rest of the group follows after you pull Skye up from off the ground, tears streaming down her face. She is shaking so you decide to hold on to her as you all continue toward the temple.

Raoul makes the incomprehensible decision to slap Wrens ass after all the hoopla.

“Nice work my darling! We make quite the team!”

Surprisingly, Wren grits her teeth and smiles at the macho douche bag. You think Wren must realize that to stay alive she’s going to have to try and get along with Raoul, no matter how insensitive his remarks and perverted glances may be.

And while Raoul was on your mind, you couldn’t help but wonder why he asked for your equipment…You didn’t have much: A canteen, two way radio, a machete and your satchel…Your satchel which contained…it. The relic. The relic that Lucas had given to you, telling you that no one else had knowledge of it. The relic that was to open the temple and reveal the treasures within. You couldn’t help but recall back to that day, when you met Lucas. A calculating businessman with a flair for the strange is how you first perceived him. He was tall with slicked back black hair going past his ears, his sharp features making him seem distinguished. You only met him that one time, but he left an impression.

“I have spent my life in the pursuit of rare and exotic artifacts.” He said to you in his high rise office.

“My collection is extensive and I wish to procure the items that are of the utmost rarity and mystery.”

“To what end?” You asked. “Half of these artifacts belong in museums and you have them hidden away in your penthouse or safe houses around the globe.”

He smirked. “You’ve done your homework on me. Then you should already know how I feel on the subject. The most desirable and sought after items on the entire planet should not be on display for Joe Schmuck and his family to gawk at, not ever fully understanding it’s potential, purpose or historical value. Relics such as these are always sought after by thieves; they belong to someone who will appreciate them. “

“I disagree sir. People have the right to see their history. Experience it. Share the stories with their children and pass it on.”

“An idealist sentiment I expected from you Mr.Havaskar. But you are here to procure the item I seek. And you will do it for the same reason all men do things….fortune.”

A lump in your throat. He was right. Your ideals be damned, you would give him what he sought after because he was paying you such a ridiculous amount to go on such a straightforward expedition.

As the conversation continued he eventually would pull out the relic that you now possess. Seemingly unimpressive at first glance, an old triangular shaped stone with various grooves and writings on it. Examining it you noticed the writing was written in various languages including ancient Aztec, Incan and Mayan.

“Why do I need this?”

“It is the key to everything. It will guide you to your goal and open doors you think impossible to open. Without it, the true goal can never be attained.”

“How did you acquire it?”

Lucas smiled, but did not answer. A money grubbing scrooge, protective of all his secrets you think.

“No one is aware I have given this to you. Keep it safe and hidden until you need it.”

“Umm…How will I know when I need it?”

“You’ll know.”
