Relic

You clenched the satchel containing the relic tightly as you recalled that day. You’re not sure what Raoul knows about it or if it’s necessarily a bad thing if he does know, but nonetheless your trust in him has waned.

Skye seems to be over her little emotional meltdown, you decide to press her on why she flipped.

“So…what happened back there Skye? You just kind of…froze.” She bowed her head in shame at your comment. She lets loose a deep sigh.

“I…when I was young I lost someone….my brother…I watched him get snatched away by two guys in a van, while he was playing outside with me. I was only about six at the time. I didn’t do anything about it. I should of ran and got help…but I…just broke down….and sat there…And I’m sorry but when I saw you screaming and being dragged under I felt that overwhelming feeling…of being helpless again…”

You put your hand on her shoulder in an effort to comfort.

“I’m sorry…You’re safe here with us, but we need to work together as a team ok? Don’t let the fear control you Skye. Conquer it. Own it.”

She nods and smiles at you.

“Did they ever find your brother?”

She looks ahead, stone faced.

“Yeah... They found him in some woods, decapitated with a baseball bat shoved up his rectum.”

Holy shit…You stay silent for the next hour.
