Hall of Infinite Doors

Being choked to death by a pompous overgrown Christmas toy really doesn't seem like a fun way to go. Gathering all your strength and courage, you pull off your heavy boot and hurl it with all your might at the noble brow of Captain Nutcracker.

The boot hits with a resounding crack, leaving a regrettable scratch mark on Captain Nutcracker's fine wooden features. The blow sends him staggering backward, but he recovers quickly with two rigid kicks of his legs. Though his light blue eyes are now burning with an unmistakable ire, he manages to regain his composure. He says to you slowly, as though speaking to a very small and stupid child,

"You poor idiot. My nefarious adversary the Mouse King died from such a blow, but I have been built to withstand the onslaughts of spoiled children, exceptionally hard nuts and yes, even wayward footwear thrown by idiots such as yourself."

You're really in for it now.

"I'm afraid," Captain Nutcracker continues, "that you leave me no choice but to incarcerate you in the Gingerbread Land Penitentiary." With surprising dexterity, he grabs your hands and binds them together with a large piece of incredibly sticky yellow taffy. He then prods you in the back with the hilt of his drawn sword and you set off down some dimly lit side streets. You notice a few curious faces appearing in windows, but really at this point you are too dejected to take much notice of them. You sigh sadly. Somehow, sadness seems sadder in Gingerbread LandÂ…

Finally, you reach your destination. The jail is a long, squat building, apparently constructed of gingerbread but not at all decorated. The walls have an almost ashy look about them and their fetid smell suggests that the jail was made from the stalest of gingerbreads.

Captain Nutcracker leads you down a long empty hallway to a small, windowless cell. He pushes you past the barred door and slams it shut. Grabbing your hands once more, he uses a caustic chemical to melt the taffy from your hands. You cry out in pain, bringing your red-burned hands to your face, then wiping them furiously on your pant legs. When you look down the hallway, Captain Nutcracker is nowhere to be seen.

As the burning subsides, you turn slowly to face your cell. It is now that you realize you're not alone.
