You muster up all your endurance and run as fast as you can breaking free of the extended reach of the sludge monster. You don't look back; you keep running, past the crumbling wall and well into the complexities of the sewer until you get yourself lost. The only good thing is it appears that the creature hasn't chased you at all; it probably stopped when you went past the wall.
You spend a couple of days trying to find your way out of the sewers. By the time you find your way out again and make your way back to the Church, you're exhausted. Most of your rations were either eaten or spoiled during your time down there, not to mention the unhealthy conditions. Lose ALL your rations and 3 Initial STAMINA points. (If you didn't have any rations you can lose 5 Initial STAMINA points)
Worse yet, you never found the Dark One's cult hideout. You swear if you ever see that thief again you're going to dispense holy justice on him. Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here though, namely not to ask a snake for help. Father Alberto is disappointed, but relieved to find you're still alive to defend the Church.
