Gryphons in Greenden

You awake bone cold and stiff. Erric is already up and about, obviously annoyed with you because he gives no greeting when you meet his eyes across the clearing. Grumbling instead, he is saddling up his horse.

You silently get your own things ready and the two of you set out on the road.

You ride half a day before you turn to your silent companion. "Is it really so terrible that I said no fire?"

Erric turns, glaring. "I think I just started to thaw. Dickhead."

"There's a village up there, right where it's supposed to be on our map. We'll be staying at an inn tonight, with real beds and everything, Erric. Let the fire go."

Erric is still glaring for a few minutes, but then it gradually melts into a grin and he reaches across the distance between the two horses to punch you affectionately in the shoulder. It hurts.

"I'm only pissed because you convinced me to come along on this joyride, ace. Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to send me along with you?" He laughs and starts to hum a bawdy tune about a milkmaid endowed with large breasts.

You smile to yourself as you approach the village.
