Hall of Infinite Doors

You start walking around the city to find a place to work. You see a blacksmith's shop, black smoke billowing out of it like it was a volcano. You hear a consistant pound of metal and coughing coming from inside. You decide you don't want to become a blacksmith (if it were even possible).

Continuing on you pass alot of women. There are no men walking beside them, only very small boys. There are no boys your age walking the streets either. Then you see one, all clad in armour, trying his best to look tough and hold up his large spear. It appears all men or boys who can carry weapons are to guard the city. You suddenly feel out of place.

The sound of a galloping horse comes up from behind you. You whirl around just in time to see the knight. He sees you just in time too, and pulls his horse to a full stop.

"Be careful where yur walking, urchin!" he shouts.

"I'm sorry." you step aside and bow your head.

"And what are ye doing, wandering the streets with nothing to do?" The knight continues, "Ye can only break for sleep and meal but ye are doing neither. Why aren't ye at yur post?"

"I am not recruited, sir." you say, sheepishly. The knight pauses and stares.

"Have ye been living under a stone all these years? A big strong lad like ye should be fighting like the rest of us." You almost smile at the compliment, but say nothing.

"No matter," the Knight says gruffly. "Follow me. Ye shall be recruited immediately."

You follow the knight through the crowd. You are afraid, but you know that if you are to live in this land of war, you need to put in your part and fight... right?
