Hall of Infinite Doors

He brought his body back a few feet, and slammed into it. The door did not budge, so he did it again. Still, the door remained stationary. He knew the door would give way. It was old, like the stairs. He tried again, and this time he heard a crack. This time he brought his foot back and kicked the door in.

The door slammed onto the ground. He realized now the family would know he was there, but he was too curious to care. If they put nails and boards there to injure him, they obviously had something worth hiding.

On the other side of the door there was a scene that grabbed his attention immediately. There, underground, on the other side of a basement door was a beach. He had never heard of such a thing. "Why would they have a beach in their basement?" He took a moment to let his eyes adjust to the light. He looked for the light source and was surprised he couldn't find it. Now there was no way he was going to sleep. He had to find out why they had a beach in their basement. The beach wasn't very large. Both walls stopped the beach from extending much longer than 100 feet.

Lying on the beach, however, was a boat. The boat was facing towards the beach, it having made a dent in the sand and sand built itself around the edges of the boat. It was a rowboat, and both paddles where on board.

John walked back and forth on the beach for a moment, thinking about what he was going to do. He could see in the distance there was a small island. "What is on that island?", he wondered. It could be almost anything, he knew. He would find out, and leave before they knew he was down in the cellar. He would be out of their home before they knew.

He jumped into the boat, and used the paddles to push off of the beach. He started the rhythmic motion of paddling. His arms were extremely sore from shoveling and from milking, so he paddled slowly.
