Will Richard Save the Day on his Day Off? You Decide!
You and Jake soon find Peter in the L2 observation lounge. It's a nicely furnished room out looking the planet; and best of all, it serves drinks. However, you resist the 'call of the spirits' as you call it, and you and Jake sit down with Peter on a couch facing the wall of windows.
"Uh, Jake, what a pleasant surprise," Peter says with a strained smile. "Richard, good to see you," Peter nods to you with a more genuine smile on his face.
"Hey, buddy pal!" Jake says as he grabs Peter in a bear hug. "Just wanted to say hi before my shift started!"
"Great, that's great," Peter says with masked annoyance. "Say, could you get me a drink?"
"Sure thing. Juice, soft drink, water?"
"Vodka."
"It's like 7:00am!"
"Fine. Vodka with some cranberry juice in it."
"Er, right."
As Jake leaves, Peter turns and talks to you.
"Hey, you hear the latest rumour going around? I hear that things have been heating up around the Polaris System and a lot of the armada has been sent there to secure the region, leaving us to virtually fend for ourselves. A guy I know in Intelligence says that the enemy could try to break through the front line and come for us."
"Right...I don't think you need that vodka, cranberry juice or not. Besides, what would they want with us?"
"Well," Peter continues, obviously getting excited, "If they manage to seize this station not only would it be a big morale boost for them, it would also give them a foothold in this quadrant. I'm telling you, there's an attack right around the corner that we can't handle, and Brass isn't telling us anything because they're worried that we'll all mutiny or desert or something."
"Uh huh. You need some serious leave my friend."
Just then, Jake returns and hands Peter his vodka and cranberry juice.
"Hey guys, love to stay and talk but my shift is starting. Whoa, Peter, you have that crazy look in your eyes again, go rest will ya? Anyways, Richy, walk me down?"
"Listen," Peter continues as if Jake hadn't said anything, "if there was an attack soon the enemy would probably have some forward scouts around here. I say we take our glider and go out looking for them. We can say we're just volunteering for more reconnaissance. What do you say?"
