The knights Lady
The next morning Alinore dressed quickly and went to the hall, hoping to see Sir Guy at breakfast. The men had all gone to look at the mill, so Alinore went to her mother's solar to work on her embroidery.
In the solar Baroness Ann was sitting with the other laidies. Robert's wife Christine, who was the same age as Alinore, and Christine's mother Beatrice. Christine was knitting something small, and Mother Beatrice was ginning widely. Alinore took the chair by her basket and smiled at the other laides. "Good morning my dears!" Alinore sang out. The lack of response was noticeable so Alinore asked, "What did I miss?"
Christine was the first to speak up. "Didn't you notice that we weren't at dinner last night Alinore?" Christine grinned at Lady Ann.
Lady Ann cut off Alinore's reply "I don't thin she noticed anything accept that handsome Sir Guy!" This sent a blush racing up Alinore's neck.
"Well," Replied Alinore, when she fully suppressed a giggle, "Father told me to be Sweet and to make a good impression, but that doesn't explain your absence." Alinore looked more closely at what Christine was knitting. It looked like a very small stocking.
"I wasn't feeling well last night" confessed Christine "that can happen they say, when you are breeding!" All of the women in the room giggled at the same time. It was a happy day in Castle Draken. Robert's wife, was going to have a baby. She was already 4 months along.
The four women sat in the solar and talked about babies and all but Alinore began stitching baby clothes. Alinore wanted to make a favor for Sir Guy to wear on his armor. The other women were much to excited about the baby to tease Alinore.
Just before it was time for the noonday meal, a servant came up to the door of the solar. "My Laides come quickly to the Hall, there has been an accident. Bring your needles." The women Gasped!
