Revenge
You don't trust the messenger - something about his eyes is deceptive. He's hiding something, and you're sure of it.
Whatever it is, you already gave him a chance to tell you the truth. One chance is all you give. The penalty for lying to you is death. There are *no* second chances.
Before the messenger can react, you draw one of your swords, and cut him down where he stands. Then, you look at the guard.
The guard stands there unflinchingly, but avoids looking directly into your eyes. That's good. He's not surprised - simply worried that he might be next.
You swiftly slash your sword through the air to clean it of blood, and then turn to the guard. "Have this mess cleaned up by the time I get back," you order. "And get rid of this body!"
The guard nods. "Yes master," he responds.
