Much of Nothing

You stare Dan in the eyes and tell him what you have decided. "I think she should drive," You explain. "I mean, you're car will probably break down after a couple hours driving and then we'll be stuck in the middle of nowhere. I don't like the idea of that."

Dan's eyes narrow, but after a couple of seconds he shrugs. "Alright. I guess I'll save on gas money this way anyway."

"Good," says the girl. "Let's go." She walks past you to the path. You watch the way her ass sways as she walks and bounces a little with each step she takes. You watch with a lustful appreciation and an absent minded lick of youur lips. She glances back and her eyes meet yours for a moment, a sheepish smile spreads across your face and you feel your face flush a little.

You feel a smack on the back of your head, as Dan passes you. "Let's get moving, asshole!" he says to as he shoulders his way past.

His broad shouldered form seems to eclipse the angelic light which was emanating from the girl who came with Dudley. Letting out a resigned sigh, you fall into step behind them.

The two of you follow the angel until you reach the parking lot of a nearby grocery chain. She leads you over to her vehicle, a blue Chevrolet Lumina. She unlocks the doors as the three of you approach the car.

"Shotgun!" cries Dan.

"Son of a bitch!!" You scream. You never win the shotgun game and are always stuck in the back seat. It blows ass sitting in the back. Unfortunately you do not have any shotgun calling skills. This fact plagues you on every road trip. You get in behind Dan and stare at the back of his stupid fucking head while the girl starts the car and pulls out of the lot.

No one speaks while she drives down the main road in the little town you live in, heading for the freeway. You look out the window and absently watch the dull life of the actionless town as you speed by.

Nothing ever seems to happen here, you think. Every day is the same. It's a phoney town full of phoney people with phoney smiles and waves. You wish you could just leave it. And then you are on the interstate, heading West towards God knows where; the adventure of a life time. Lying ahead of you is the unknown; a world for you to discover.

"Any of you ever been this way?" The girl asks.

"A couple of exits up," Dan replies.

"Same here," You chime in.

"I haven't," she says.

You drive on in silence a little longer when she speaks up. "Hey, there's a joint in the glove box. We can't smoke in the car, though."

"Why the hell not?" Dan asks.

"I don't want to get pulled over with the car smelling like that." She replies.

"That's fucking stupid," He tells her. "As long as you dont drive like an idiot, we're not going to be pulled over."

"Unless a cop sees what we're passing around," She replies curtly.

"Then where the hell are we supposed to smoke that shit?" Dan asks.

The car passes a brown highway marker that indicates a rest stop is coming up. You point this out to them and she seems okay with it, but Dan is apprehensive.

"It's the middle of the day," He says. "There are probably people all over the place there."

The girl looks at him with a mischievous smile on her face. "Yeah, but there's vending machines there too. I could really use a drink."

"There's probably a park or something coming up, can't you wait till we're there?" He replies.

"I could... But I'm not sure I want to," She says, tilting the rearview mirror so that her eyes meet yours. "What do you think, dude in the back? Should we stop here or keep moving?"
