You swipe at him with the pointed end of your staff but he ducks with a fluid ease before following up with a strike with his right hand that hits you, narrowing missing your neck. (Lose 1 body or helm armour point, or shield point). You jump backwards, twist and turn your body around and swing out with you staff again from behind yourself to land a skillfully manoeuvred blow. Your staff thuds into the protective shield that the vampire had already evoked. A shiny ring of protection on his right hand gives away the source of his unexpected magical powers. Now continue the battle (roll two dice). You'll need to land two more blows to break the vampire's shield.
