The Black Citadel

You walk in the room to find an open fire burning, flickering warmth and shadows over the elegant gothic furniture and finely embroided red curtains.

"Please come and sit down, I've been expecting you," says a soft deep voice from somewhere behind you.

You spin around, tightly clutching your staff to find a man standing in the open doorway. You're astonished as to how he managed to get behind you without you noticing. The man is tall with long dark hair that shimmers in the soft light as he closes the door. He flicks a side of his long black coat aside with a quick flourish and gestures for you to sit in an inviting soft black chair by the open fire.

You place your staff next to the chair and sit down. The man does sits down opposite you.

"So you've been expecting me…" you start.

"Why as a matter of fact yes," the man jumps in, "for you're the one that holds the key to my room, isn't that correct?"

Surprising, how he managed to know that when you only just stumbled upon the key is a mystery. You hold his glimmering black eyes for some seconds, trying to read his intentions, but he gives nothing away in his blank pale face.

"Yes, I have your key. So you'll probably want it returned to you then," you reply.

You drop the key onto the table in front of you.

"Actually, you're lucky you came in here the old fashioned way, using a key that is. Any attempt at using magic to come in here would have resulted in a triggering of a defensive magical ward. As far as I'm aware, most of the locked doors in the citadel have such wards."

"As far as I'm aware, most mages have to study Magical Wards 101 in their first year, so I guess it's just common sense not to do something like phantomising through a door," you reply.

Just then, in a quicker than the eye movement, he has two wineglasses on the table with a bottle of, what looks like red wine. He continues,

"Please, relax a moment and have a glass of wine with me."
